Winthrop historic cemetery tour is Oct. 9

WINTHROP — Bailey Public Library Adult Services Librarian Nick Perry and Youth Services Librarian Stacy Tomassone will lead a journey through Maple Cemetery, Main Street, beginning at noon Saturday, Oct. 9.
The tour is free and open to the public.
Participants will learn about the first settlers who came to Winthrop, a Revolutionary War hero
and a Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, among others. The tour is suitable for all ages, and will stop at gravesites throughout the cemetery to discuss some of the area’s ancestors and tell theirstories.
Anna Carll will also provide a demonstration on the process of cleaning and repairing grave stones immediately following the cemetery tour. Carll has worked for years
cleaning and repairing gravestones in her role as a sexton and a member of the
Maine Old Cemetery Association. She will clean the stone of a war veteran.
