Family of summer residents donates to two Rangeley scholarship funds

RANGELEY — The Seasonal Friends of Rangeley Scholarship and Rangeley Lakes Area Legacy Scholarship have each received multi-year donations from the family of long-time seasonal residents of the area.
Jim and Peggy Chapin visited Oquossoc for more than 30 years and were active supporters of a number of community organizations in the Rangeley region.
Their family members said that education was very important to the couple, so it’s fitting that they will be remembered, and honored, by supporting the scholarship funds. They have made an annual donation of $1,500 for the next four years to each scholarship.
The Seasonal Friends of Rangeley Scholarship, in its 25th year, is funded by visitors to, and seasonal residents of, the Rangeley Lakes region, as a way to thank those who live there for sharing its many attributes. The Legacy Scholarship is supported primarily by permanent residents of the area. Contributions may be made in honor or memory of a person, living or deceased.
Recipients of the scholarships are chosen by the Scholarship Committee of the Rangeley Lakes Regional School. Selections are based upon a strong academic record, activity in school programs and participation in community service, which is a major criterion used in choosing recipients of these financial awards.
The directors of the scholarship program are Rebekah Carmichael, Rangeley town treasurer; Heidi Deery, student services director at Rangeley Lakes Regional School; Leeanna J. Wilbur, vice president and branch manager, Franklin Savings Bank; one anonymous seasonal resident.
Contributions to the Seasonal Friends of Rangeley Scholarship and the Legacy Scholarship, which are tax deductible, may be sent to P.O. Box 321. Rangeley, ME 04970.
