RANGELEY — Arnold Lehman, former director of the Brooklyn Museum, will discuss his book “Sensation: The Madonna, the Mayor, the Media, & the First Amendment” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the Rangeley Public Library, 7 Lake St.
In his book, due out Sept. 21, Lehman shares the inside scoop on the political maelstrom that took place in response to the exhibition, “Sensation” in 1999. Featuring pornographic images as well as artwork showing the Madonna with elephant dung on her, the exhibition offended many people, causing a renewed battle over the right to freedom of artistic expression.
The talk is free and open to the public, but registration is encouraged. Call the library at 107-864-5529 or stop by to sign up to attend.
