KVCAP infant, toddler child care options open for enrollment
WATERVILLE — A Live and Work in Maine survey suggests that nearly eight in 10 Mainers would prefer to continue working from home at least part-time as COVID-19 restrictions lift. Gov. Janet Mills’ recovery plan encourages new businesses and job creation through innovation and entrepreneurship. Continuing to work from home or reentering the job force often requires child care for young children. Kennebec Valley Community Action Program provides high quality care for children birth to age five in Waterville and Skowhegan child care centers, as well as in multiple partnership locations with community family child care providers/centers.
“As a community action program providing both Head Start and child care, our approach to services is collaborative, bringing resources to local communities. This supports children, families, schools, and businesses,” said Tracye Fortin, chief operating officer of KVCAP Child & Family Services programs and executive director of Educare Central Maine.
“If you live in northern Kennebec or Somerset County, dedicated, trained, passionate providers have openings for your infant or toddler. Our comprehensive services offer support for families as well. Child care options in more than fifteen locations or a weekly home visiting/playgroup program provide many advantages through quality learning experiences,” said Sarah Lavallee, KVCAP early head start program director.
Through partnerships with local school districts, KVCAP also provides quality preschool at no cost to families. Nicole Chaplin, KVCAP preschool program director for Somerset County Region, said, “Our long-standing partnerships with MSAD 49, MSAD 54, RSU 19 and RSU 74, as well as Waterville Public Schools in our Educare location, enable these districts to support school readiness through comprehensive preschool programming for children of all socio-economic backgrounds. The preschool experience supports all children in being successful in Kindergarten, and engages parents as partners in the process.”
