KVCAP golf tournament raises $18,000

WATERVILLE — The Kennebec Valley Community Action Program’s 7th Annual Golf Tournament, on June 25, raised $18,000 to provide transportation for seniors and people with cancer who do not qualify for MaineCare rides, so that they can access vital medical appointments.
The first place gross winning team was Skowhegan Savings; The Poland Crew earned second place. Fred’s Coffee came in first place for net score and MaineGeneral Health came in second place net. Gary Smith, Warren Horbel, and Marsha Adams each scored closest to the pins, and the longest drive winners were Maureen Heath (women) and Brady Foster (men).
The promise of Community Action embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities, and makes America a better place to live, KVCAP said in announcing the winners. “We care about the entire community, and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other,” the release said.
The event is held in memory of Mark K. Johnston, who died in 2018. Johnston was KVCAP’s chief financial officer for more than 20 years and a staunch supporter of Community Action, helping people and changing lives.
