Register for ‘Forestry For Maine Birds’ field day by July 15

BETHEL — Mahoosuc Land Trust, in partnership with Maine Audubon and New England Forestry Foundation, have joined forces to offer a comprehensive workshop for those interested in managing their woodlots for birds and wildlife Saturday, July 17, from 9 a.m. to noon. The deadline to register is July 15.
The day will begin at Valentine Farm, 162 North Road, with a slide presentation by Wildlife Ecologist Sally Stockwell, director of conservation at Maine Audubon. Stockwell will describe the “Forestry For Maine Birds” program and cover the habits and habitats of 20 priority woodland birds and other wildlife species such as Canada Lynx and American marten.
Followig that presentation, participants will go to the McCoy-Chapman Forest to view the recent timber harvest and discuss how it has improved habitat for wildlife and birds. There, Christine Parrish, western Maine project coordinator for New England Forestry Foundation, will discuss her team’s work to help family woodland owners use forestry as a tool to create important habitat for fish, birds, and wildlife.
