The Mechanic Falls, Minot and Poland Tri-Town Optimist Club has announced its June Regional School Unit16 Student of the Month recipient –Mabel Tyler — an 8th-grader at Bruce M. Whittier Middle School. Mabel was selected by her teachers for her empathy for others, joyful participation in learning, quality work, healthy friendships, sense of humor, willingness to take educational risks in the classroom, and the fact that she is unabashedly herself. Mabel also recently won first place in the Whittier History Day Contest for her website about Gloria Steinam. Mable is pictured with her Roundtable advisor, Dan Knott. (Submitted photo)
