FARMINGTON — Several trail work days for the Fly Rod Crosby trail have been scheduled.
There is a lot to be done this summer, and all ages and abilities are welcome. Volunteers may come for a couple hours, or more. Work usuallly ends around midday.
To take part, meet at 8:30 a.m. at the kiosk on Reeds Mill Road in Madrid. From Route 4, take a right (from the south) onto Reeds Mill Road and go a little more than 4.5 miles miles.The kiosk is on the left. Park along the road or in the field.
Work days are Saturday, June 5 (rain date June 6); Monday, June 14 (rain date June 15); Saturday, June 19 (raine date June 20); Saturday, June 26.
Bring water, bug dope, safety glasses, gloves, sun block lotion, clippers, wading shoes for crossing a stream, and tools if you have them (they are provided if you don’t), lunch, a mask, a smile.
If you can’t work on the scheduled days, but would still like to help, it can be arranged.
The Fly Rod Crosby Trail is a 45-mile heritage hiking trail that, when completed, will go from Strong to Oquossoc along the Sandy River, Orbeton and Hardy streams across the Appalachian Trail and Rangeley Lake to the Sporting Heritage Museum in Rangeley.
