RANGELEY — The Maine Forestry Museum invites every girl and boy in the area between the ages of 6 and 8 to sign up for the Little Miss and Mister Wood Chip Contest.
The contest will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 16, at the Rangeley Inn, 2443 Main St. The Wood Chip program is part of the museum’s Annual Logging Festival, which will be held July 16 and 17.
Contestants may sing a song or recite a poem; they may choose a favorite or write their own. Other performances, such as dancing or playing musical instruments, are not be accepted toward the competition. Every Wood Chip contestant receives a prize. Winners will ride in the Little Miss and Mister Wood Chip float in the Logging Parage on Saturday, July 17, and be introduced at the festival immediately after the parade.

The contest will also include the clogging group Northern Explosion Dance Team as well as Pulled Together Band, playing bluegrass and folk tunes. There will also be the induction of the first four women into the Loggers Hall of Fame.
Admission is free, but donations are accepted. This event is partially funded by a generous grant from the Maine Expansion Arts Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.
