Oxford Hills senior wins music festlival design contest

SOUTH PARIS — Sebago-Long Lake Music Festival presented an award for the design of its 2021 program brochure to Culiandra Nero, an Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School senior.
The music festival has worked with Virginia Valdes, of Oxford Hills Technical School graphic design program for 13 years and design of the program is a highlight of the students’ curriculum each spring.
Nero is in her third year of the graphic design program and is taking design courses through Southern Maine Community College. She is also an Adobe certified associate in graphic design and illustration. She has been named graphic design student of the year for the last two years and was a semifinalist for the Presidential Scholars Program in Career and Technical Education, one of the nation’s most distinguished honors for graduating high school seniors.
She has also been awarded a Scholastic Art and Writing Gold Key and five Silver Keys. In early 2019, her team placed first for the state in the SkillsUSA Promotional Bulletin Board Competition, after which they continued on to place seventh out of more than 40 in the national competition. In late 2019, she won The New York Times Editorial Cartoon Contest for her take on China’s control of American markets.
She is also salutatorian for the class of 2021 and was named Tech Student of the Year for the class of 2021. She plans to continue her studies at Tufts University, in Medford, Mass.
Lee Bearse, treasurer of Sebago-Long Lake Music Festival’s Board of Trustees, said, “The music festival is very happy to feature the work of this creative and talented young woman who has excelled in so much of what she does. Thank you, Culiandra, for the effort and skill you put into this beautiful design.” The series is held at Deertrees Theater in Harrison.
