BRUNSWICK — Midcoast Senior College’s free Summer Wisdom Lecture Series will be held 1 to 2 p.m. on the first four Wednesdays in June from 1 to 2 p.m. on Zoom.

The series includes:
June 2: How the U.S. Navy orders new ships at Bath Iron Works: BIW is a private shipyard that has built commercial and military vessels since its founding in 1884. Capt. Joseph Tuite will give an overview of the partnership between BIW and the U.S. Navy.
June 9: A tale of two pandemics: A discussion of parallels between the COVID-19 pandemic and the influenza pandemic of 1918 and what the future might hold. Presenter Richard Neiman, MD has had a lifetime interest in the history of medicine. He is an emeritus professor of pathology, laboratory medicine and internal medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine.
June 16: Continuity and change in the contemporary Arctic: This illustrated talk will examine the ramifications of the changes to the Arctic, how they are being felt and ways residents of the North American Arctic are responding. Bowdoin professor of anthropology Susan A. Kaplan is an anthropologist and archaeologist who has conducted field work in northern Labrador for more than 35 years, and is director of Bowdoin College’s Peary-MacMillan Artic Museum and Arctic Studies Center.
June 23: Past, present and future of the old Navy base in Brunswick: A historical context for the redevelopment effort of the former Naval Air Station. Presenter is Steve Levesque, executive director of Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority which oversees Brunswick Landing.
