AUBURN — The Androscoggin Historical Society has developed a series of experiences at Knight House that will run through the summer, as well as on Indigenous People’s Day weekend.
Knight House, constructed in 1796, is the oldest house in downtown Auburn. It is on the Auburn Riverwalk near West Pitch Park.
The programs are free and open to the public, though donations are accepted. Masks are required to enter the house. For more information, contact the society at 207-784-0586.
The Knight House will be open for tours from 1 to 4 p.m. as well as hold themed outdoor sessoins on:
Saturday, May 29, with the theme Memorial Day, with an emphasis on the Civil War.
Wednesday, June 9, outside activities will focus on methods of communication, from slates and quills, to telephones and typewriters.
Saturday, June 26, outside activities will focus on cleaning chores, using old artifacts.
Wednesday, July 14, outside theme will feature textiles and needle tatting demonstrations.
Saturday, July 31, outside activities will feature old-fashioned games.
Wednesday, Aug. 11, outside theme focus on preserving food, and will feature a corn sheller, apple peeler and butter maker.
Saturday, Aug. 28, theme will focus on the herb garden and will include samples from the Knight House culinary and medicinal herb garden.
Monday, Oct. 11, celebrate Indigenous People’s Day by viewing the Ne-Do-Ba collection of artifacts donated to the historical society.
