New ‘Birds of Maine’ book topic of May 5 Zoom webinar

AUGUSTA — Palm warblers, ruby-crowned kinglets and tree swallows are among the recent spring migrants we’re now enjoying in Maine — all telling signs of spring.
Authors Barbara Vickery and Jeff Wells, of the National Audubon Society, will present a Zoom webinar onthe book “Birds of Maine,” noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, hosted by the Natural Resources Council of Maine.
The publication showcases the beauty and natural history of the state’s birdlife, and is the lifework of birder and conservationist Peter Vickery. Vickery died in 2017, leaving a legacy that is not only the first authoritative overview of Maine’s rich and changing birdlife since 1949, but is also perhaps the most comprehensive and visually stunning state-based bird book ever published. It features artwork by Lars Johnson, one of the world’s preeminent bird artists, colorful maps and short essays spotlighting Maine’s special places and unique ornithological history.
