AUGUSTA — Dr. Julia McDonald, of Augusta, traveled to East Africa at the beginning of April with Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders to focus on sexual and reproductive health for displaced communities.
MSF is an international, independent medical humanitarian organization that provides medical assistance to people affected by conflicts, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from health care.
McDonald has been faculty at the Maine Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency since 2014 and is a staff physician at MaineGeneral Medical Center. She is the medical director of abortion services at Mabel Wadsworth Center in Bangor and provides reproductive health care at Maine Family Planning.
Her dedication to primary care was recognized by the Maine Association of Family Physicians when she was honored as the state’s 2019 Family Physician of the Year. She will return to her full spectrum practice in Augusta and Bangor in 2022.
