For the first time in two years, young athletes in the Winslow Youth Baseball and Softball Program took the field at All Pro in Waterville to get ready for a full season. In an effort to strengthen softball and baseball in Winslow, coaches for both varsity teams agreed to join the field to unite the programs.
Many efforts have been made to give these athletes the best experience possible, while adhering to the current COVID restrictions. This season is planned to be safely filled with games, practices and other time spent working directly with the high school athletes.
“We are fortunate to have varsity coaches at the high school in both sports who understand the best way to grow a program is to invest at the youngest levels. If the importance of correct fundamentals and having fun are supported in the youth league, then winning will follow naturally in time at the higher levels,” noted Beth LaFountain, youth league president. “It makes sense for us to work together closely to support each other and grow the kids’ passion for the sport. In my experience, it doesn’t take very long before these eight year olds are on the mound as a high school senior.”
