Cancer Resource Center offers oncology social worker support

NORWAY — The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine recently hired licensed oncology social worker Stephanie LeBlond to assist clients with emotional, financial and basic needs, including travel and food support.
Funding for the part-time position comes from a one-year operating grant from the Maine Cancer Foundation. She can be reached at sleblond@crcofwm.org or by calling 207-890-0205 and leaving a message and she will return the call on her next scheduled work day.
Anyone impacted by cancer, whether newly diagnosed or out of treatment for a period of time, is eligible for services that the center offers.
Services at the center include a variety of weekly virtual classes and programs, a library of recorded yoga and fitness classes on their website and YouTube channel that are accessible through smartphone, tablet or computer, free complementary therapy sessions, comfort items such as wigs, arm and neck pillows, port protectors, rice bags, wrap quilts, hats, afghans etc., food and travel assistance as well as the assistance of the oncology social worker to help you connect to other resources.
The center is open from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday mornings. A volunteer will be in the center to greet visitors and assist them with their needs.
The Live Well Card, formerly Caring Coupons, provides up to five reiki, massage, reflexology, therapeutic yoga and other sessions available from a list of approved wellness providers. Survivors and caregivers each are eligible for five sessions. The wellness providers have all been vetted by the CRCofWM and are reimbursed by the center for their services.
For those facing the financial impact of this pandemic while going through cancer treatment, assistance is available through a grant from the Maine Cancer Foundation. Families may be eligible for gas cards so they may get to their medical appointments and cancer treatments, and gift cards to help with groceries are available.
New client orientation is available by phone or virtually, where new clients can meet with Executive Director Diane Madden to learn about free programs offered to individuals living with cancer, their caregivers and their families. First time registrants are asked to email dmadden@crcofwm.org or call 207-890-0329 to fill out a brief registration/waiver form.
