WASHINGTON, D.C. — Area fire departments are among those that were awarded a total of $81,503 to upgrade protective equipment and support personnel.
The funding — awarded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program — will help to provide critically needed resources to equip and train emergency personnel, enhance efficiencies, and support community resilience.
Among the 10 Maine fire departments to get funding were those in Oakland, Albion, Clinton, Fairfield, Waterville and Winslow, which shared a total of $32,653.
“Firefighters and fire support staff put their lives on the line every day to protect us,” said U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and U.S. Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, in a joint statement announcing the grants. “This important investment will help to ensure that Maine fire departments have the necessary equipment and personnel to continue to keep our families and communities safe in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.”
Other Maine departments to get money were in Aurora, Presque Isle, Rockland and Westbrook.
