BELGRADE — The town is hosting a a public hearing, public information session and candidates’ forum leading up to the town election on Saturday, March 20.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the town is voting on the town budget by ballot, as well as town positions.
A public hearing on the town meeting warrant will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, ia Zoom at us02web.zoom.us/j/81131427984.
The public hearing will be immediately followed by a regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Selectpersons.
The warrant is posted on the Town’s website at townofbelgrade.com/warrant. Along with municipal department budgets, the ballot includes a three-person race for two select board seats, a moorings ordinance and several perpetuity articles.
The Communications Committee will host one of its online Community Conversations at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at which town officials will talk about and respond to residents’ questions about the town meeting warrant.
The meeting will be conducted via Zoom; the link is available at townofbelgrade.com/communityconversation.
The committee is also sponsoring a candidates’ forum for the three select board candidates, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 3. The Zoom link to that is also posted at townofbelgrade.com/communityconversation. The candidates are Barbara Allen, Cory Alexander and Ernst Merckens.
Absentee ballots will be available from Friday, Feb. 19, through March 16. Mailed ballots may be requested by calling 207-495-2258. Ballots may also be picked up at the Town Office, 990 Augusta Road, which is open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays and until 7 p.m. Thursday.
A voting booth will be available for voters who want to cast their ballot at the Town Office.
Ballots must be returned by 8 p.m. Saturday, March 20. A secure dropbox for returning ballots is available 24/7 on the north side of the Town Office.
Polls on Election Day will be open from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. March 20 at the Center for All Seasons, 1 Center Drive, off Route 27.
