Maine veterans to get help with needed dental care

AUGUSTA — The Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Affairs is creating an online dental care resource its website as a clearing house of information for veterans and is partnering with Northeast Delta Dental to form a Maine Veterans’ Dental Network.
The network, which will be set up this year, is for veterans who can’t afford necessary dental services, and is similar to one set up in New Hampshire.
U.S. Air Force veteran Dr. Mitch Couret founded the New Hampshire Veterans’ Dental Network in 2018, which has 12 dentists and oral surgeons (10 are veterans and two wanted to give back to the veteran community). Each has committed to provide a discounted fee by (20%), and to date, more than $300,000 in dental services have been donated, 50% from the dentists and 50% from Northeast Delta Dental.
“The level of donations understates the need and compassion the program provides for New Hampshire’s veterans,” Couret said. “This program truly has the ability to change a veteran’s quality of life and embodies the spirit of giving back to the community.”
In December, Northeast Delta Dental pledged $35,000 to assist the bureau with forming a Maine network this year. MBVS Director of Strategic Partnerships Sarah Sherman is the program’s point of contact and will help coordinate veterans’ transportation when needed.
