Jan. 272021

SIDNEY — Luke Buck, a senior at Messalonskee High School has been named a candidate for the U.S. Presidential Scholar program.
The son of Tonia and Travis Buck, Luke is one of 4,500 students selected from 3.6 million candidates in high schools across the country in 2021 for the program.
Inclusion in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program is one of the highest honors bestowed upon graduating high school seniors, according to a news release from the program. Scholars are selected on the basis of superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in community and school activities.
Of those candidates selected, 161 will eventually be chosen as Presidential Scholars. If circumstances permit, they are invited to Washington, DC in June for the National Recognition Program, which features various events and enrichment activities and culminates in the presentation of the Presidential Scholars Medallion during a White House-sponsored ceremony.
