Grant means KV YMCA can offer free day care to qualifying families

AUGUSTA — The YMCA Alliance of Maine recently received $2.475 million in Community Development Block Grant money to serve families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The money was distributed to all 16 YMCAs of Maine. To use the money, the KV YMCA, in Augusta, is offering a limited number of 100 percent scholarships to qualifying families to cover the cost of day care for school-aged children from kindergarten through sixth grades, the Y’s Kids Zone. Those who qualify would pay nothing for the full-day program, which includes: *Indoor gym and outdoor play *Daily homework time *Arts and crafts *STEM projects *Music and dance *Swimming *Use of both KVYMCA facilities *Free transportation from Manchester to Augusta *Access to Camp KV (weather permitting)
The grant program covers whatever program plan needed, ranging from one day a week to five full days, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
“This is an amazing offer that our current Kids Zone families are going to benefit from, and we’d love to see you join our Kids Zone family,” Y officials said.
