PORTLAND– A St. Dominic Academy student is among four in the state who won the Diocese of Portland’s Christmas Card Art Contest, conducted by the diocese’s Office of Development.
Lilly Beauchesne, of St. Dominic Academy, in Auburn, was the winner in the grade 9 to 12 category. Her card is based on Luke 2:12, which says, “This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
All Catholic school and faith formation students throughout the diocese were invited to participate in the contest. More than 300 submissions were received, each featuring original creations by the artists reflecting a passage from scripture.
The winners’ creations will appear on Christmas cards that will be sent to 2020 Catholic Appeal donors.
Other contest winners were: kingergarten-grade 2, Alana Kurkowski, Holy Cross School, South Portland; grades 3-5, Ella Tederous, St. Thomas School, Sanford; grades 6-8, Bethany Souther, Parish of the Ascenension of the Lord, Kittery.
