AUBURN — The city has announced a new approach to planning, permitting, economic and community development, as well as a new Economic and Community Development Department.
The city’s new growth team includes longtime employee Eric Cousens, most recently the city’s deputy director of ECD, as director of planning and permitting; Glen Holmes as director of business and community development; and Jay Brenchick as director of economic development.
Cousens also worked for the city of Lewiston as a land use inspector and assistant planner before he joined Auburn’s city government in 2006, where he’s been in various planning and economic Development roles.
Holmes comes to his new role from Community Concepts Finance Corporation, where he was president. He first joined CCFC in 2012 as director of the Western Maine Economic Development Council.
Brenchick was the first director for the newly formed New Hampshire Film and Television Office, then was senior business development manager for the Manatee Economic Development Council in Bradenton, Fla. He also worked in Virginia before coming back to his home state.
“I am very excited to introduce this new team,” said City Manager Phil Crowell. “Auburn has a legacy and commitment to taking steps forward, with ‘no backward steps.’ The city has been experiencing considerable growth, and we have put together a development team that will be able to not only help implement our vision for continued progress, but will also help put our strategic plan recommendations into motion. This team will embody our new marketing initiative, ‘Auburn: Where your next opportunity is closer than you think.’ ”
