AUGUSTA — The Kennebec Historical Society December Facebook presentation is a discussion of Christ Church, in Gardiner, which is celebrating the 200th anniversary. The presentation is by historian Earle g. Shettleworth Jr.

Constructed of local granite between 1818 and 1820, Christ Church is Maine’s first example of Gothic Revival church architecture. From 1847 to 1866 the church served as the seat of Maine’ first Episcopal bishop, George Burgess, who is buried in the churchyard.
