Lewiston’s Sand for Seniors is back

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Public Works Department has announced that the Sand for Seniors program will continue this year. Navigating icy driveways and walkways can be challenging, especially for senior citizens. The program is for elderly residents who are housebound or cannot lift five-gallon buckets of sand weighing about 50 pounds.
Lewiston will now make winter a little easier for the city’s seniors, those ages 65 and older, by delivering to them a bucket of sand that they can use to treat icy outdoor walkways. Details are below. To order or for further information, call Lewiston Public Works at 207-513-3003 – Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m.to 2:30 p.m.
Good to know:
* One bucket per season. (Buckets provided by Sam’s Italian Foods.)
* For Lewiston seniors, 65 years or older.
* Owner-occupied, three-unit or less.
* Order by Nov. 13.
* Available until supplies last.
A public works team, in a city truck, will deliver the bucket and seniors are encouraged to keep bucket until next year.
