AUBURN — Audrey Estes’ birthday will be celebrated from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, at Knight House.
There will be an open house and storytellers at the house, which is at the end of the Riverwalk and West Pitch Park.
Estes was children’s librarian at Auburn Public Library from the mid 1960s to the mid 1970s. She was known for her expressive story hours and the AHS will have a group of local residents reading stories for the audience to enjoy in her honor.
In addition to working as children’s librarian, Estes was one of the original members of committee to secure the Knight House for the Auburn Heritage group. She also was active in all the senior citizen groups of the time. Estes was a 1927 graduate of Bates College.
Guests are also welcome to share memories of Estes, and pictures and news clippings are welcome.
Children and adults are welcome to stop by, enjoy a tour of the Knight House and Downing Shoe Shop while properly masked and with social distancing. The Knight House is one of the oldest wood frame houses in Auburn. The afternoon will include storytellers, refreshments and costumed volunteers.
