BELGRADE — “In the Moon’s Shadow,” a film by Belgrade-based production company Moon Shadow Pictures LLC was picked to screen at LA Femme International Film Festival from Oct. 15-18.
LA Femme International Film Festival focuses on platforming women filmmakers “by women, for everyone.” The festival was created in 2005, when the festival’s founders saw a need to promote women behind the camera as directors, producers and writers.

Originally cast as a lead in the feature, Maine actress Debra Lord Cooke became one of the producers of the film when funding fell through just three months before shooting. Through much effort and the help of the other two producers, Thomas Kesolits and Elissa Piszel and director Alvin Case, funding was replaced. The film was shot in Belgrade, including Cooke’s family cottage and Castle Island Camps. The production also traveled to the Sand Hills of Nebraska to capture scenes shot during the total eclipse of the sun in August 2017.
“In the Moon’s Shadow,” is the story of a family that has grown apart due to the pressures and distractions of our times and the influence of modern technologies.
Locally it has been screened at the Maine International Film Festival in July 2019, MIFF in the Mountains in August 2019 and in Belgrade Lakes in September 2019, as well as at national and international film festivals.
