Free community Kennebec Paddlethon is set for Sept. 5

Aug. 312020

SKOWHEGAN — The Kennebec Paddlethon, a free guided history tour along the Kennebec River for all paddlers will take place Saturday, Sept. 5.
Skowhegan Outdoors and Main Street Skowhegan are hosting a guided river trip where participants will enjoy the challenge of a half-marthon (13 river miles) or a Fun Run (six river miles) paddle, while learning about the past, present and future significance of the Kennebec River and its surrounding land.
The paddle will be guided from Madison to Skowhegan by Skowhegan Outdoors Rec coaches Emma Corwin and Mara Kavanaugh. In addition to a great day on the water, participants will enjoy “raft up chats” with local historians along the way, who will educate on the rich history of and around the Kennebec River.
The paddle has options for all paddlers, from first-timers to experienced. This is a free event for the community, but registration is required. Bring your own canoe or kayak, and there are limited number of canoes available to borrow for the day.
The Bankery will deliver picnic lunches to Oosoola Park for paddlers to enjoy during the paddlethon. Choose to purchase a picnic only, or select our Paddler Provision Box for a picnic, Skowhegan Outdoors swag and more. Proceeds benefit the Skowhegan Outdoors Community Gear Library.
Skowhegan Outdoors COVID-19 protocols will be followed. Come with your face covering. For more information and registration, find Kennebec Paddlethon on Facebook.
