HIRAM — Although Great Ossipee Museum of Hiram Historical Society is closed for gatherings because of COVID-19, the museum is presenting, via Zoom, “The Brushians & Friends,” one of the canceled programs from this year.
Doug Noble will present an overview of the Portland painters’ group, the Brushians, founded in 1860. The Brushians were a group of 16 or so men, including Portland artists Charles F. Kimball, George F Morse and John Calvin Stevens, painter and architect. The group painted landscapes together, mostly in the greater Portland area and sometimes in the White Mountains.
Though consisting of men, the group had friends, one of whom was a woman. Noble will profile the group and friends and show their works of art.
Noble lives in Portland and has a great interest in history. His family has been associated with Baldwin and Hiram for generations.
