MADRID — The Madrid Historical Society was able to go through the items in the Madrid General Store and Poacher’s Paradise before those buildings were torn down earlier this year. After having selected memorabilia or the museum, the society is offering the remainder to the public.
A yard sale will be held for two days at the schoolhouse, 1 Schoolhouse Road, starting from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Aug. 21. The Friday sale is for current dues-paid members. Membership will be available to join on that day, before shopping. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, will be open to the public.
Items available include bottles, bar stool bases, beds, tables, lamps, mirrors, advertising displays, dishes, wooden soda crates and metal ceiling tiles from the Isaiah Chick Hotel and Store (built in 1885 after fire destroyed the first building). Items will be marked with a suggested donation. The 2020 Madrid Historical Society T-shirts, featuring the Madrid General Store, will be also be available for sale, as well as leftover 2020 Madrid Historical Society calendars, featuring the Madrid Store history.
Anyone interested in visiting the museum while at the yard sale may call Cindy at 207-639-2115 to reserve a time.
