Red Maple Audiology warmly welcomed back to Turner

By Kira Spellman

Since 2012, Red Maple Audiology has been serving central and Western Maine’s hearing needs, specializing in diagnostic audiology, auditory processing disorders for children through adult, and hearing aid solutions, always offered in a setting that is both welcoming and warm.
Dr. Ashlee Vandiver, or simply “Dr. Ashlee” to her patients, operates her independent, private practice — on Cobblestone Drive in Turner — with a passionate goal to improve not only her patients’ lives but also those of their family and other loved ones.
“Audiology is so much about communication with each other,” she explained, “so the family is here with them. I get that 100 percent. I help them get back to communicating.”
Growing up in Turner, Vandiver looked forward to returning to her own town and expanding her practice within the community. As a child, she fondly recalls attending Turner schools and graduating from Leavitt Area High School. She was always active in sports, clubs and activities, recalling life “just being fun.”
While studying pre-med, she found herself drawn to audiology, noting that this type of practice would allow her to offer care on a more personal level without as much time constraint as other practices.
Personal care has become the heart of her practice and is why patients, who were seeing her from Lewiston and other towns, have followed her move to Turner. She shares her life with her husband, who also works locally at nearby Hood Equipment, and their three young sons.
“I love Turner!” Vandiver reflected. “I am glad to be able to come back to such a welcoming community that appreciates us as much as we appreciate them!”
At Red Maple Audiology, the motto is “here, you’re family” and we are here so you can, again “hear your family.” Vandiver seeks to find a personalized solution for each hearing journey, whether for a young child learning to process hearing while struggling in a learning environment, someone who has been injured and needs auditory rehabilitation, or perhaps an older patient who, through testing, discovers that their hearing will be greatly enhanced with some specialized hearing aids.
“There is no one size fits all. People need personalized solutions. I always strive to meet that need,” she explained. “I get to know people one-on-one. That is how I make the right recommendations.”
Vandiver offers gift cards as a way to help people help others. During this coronavirus crisis, she offers individualized appointments with safe time-spacing in between, offers masks and clear masks, curbside appointments, as well as Telehealth, which allows some questions and hearing aid adjustments to be done over the phone from throughout Maine.
She conducts individual consulting and also works with community schools. Vandiver strives to “meet people where they are,” adding a bit of advice. “As we get older, from about mid-30s and beyond, we can begin to slowly lose our hearing but don’t realize it since we continue to adapt to it. Take time for self-care.”
