LEWISTON — The snowshoeing and cross country skiing activities of the Outsiders Club of USM Lewiston-Auburn Campus’ Senior College came to an abrupt halt in mid-March due to the pandemic.
Following Gov. Janet Mills’ and CDC mandates, the group began hiking and kayaking again, gathering May 18 at Pineland Farms for its first spring hike. Members agrees there was no doubt that the fresh spring weather, leafing trees, blooming flowers, exercise and camaraderie were just the prescription for these difficult times.
Weekly hikes have continued at Thorncrag, Cliff Trail in Harpswell and the Paper Trail in Lisbon, to note a few. The recent extremely hot and humid weather has canceled a couple of planned hikes, but the group plans to be back on the trail as soon as possible. The very enthusiastic kayaking arm of the club has paddled Nequasset Lake in Woolwich and most recently Lake Pennesseewassee. The group is led by Reine Mynahan and Janet Stenberg.
