GAHS joins national ‘Clear the Shelters Adopt & Donate’ campaign

LEWISTON –The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society has joined NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations’  Clear the Shelters 2020 pet adoption campaign. To help individuals and communities continue to practice safe social distancing measures, this year’s initiative will run from Saturday, Aug. 1 through Monday, Aug. 31 and feature virtual pet adoptions, making it easy for people to donate online to participating shelters/rescues.
This is the sixth consecutive year that NBC- and Telemundo- owned stations present their popular pet adoption campaign to communities nationwide in partnership with affiliate stations and shelters/rescues. Since 2015, the Clear The Shelters campaign has helped more than 410,00 pets find new homes.
“This year, as more people have been staying at home, the importance of pets in our lives has really reached center stage,” says Katie Lisnik, GAHS executive director. “They keep us laughing, get us out of the house for walks and provide companionship and a furry face to love when days are tough. Pets do so much for us; let’s do all we can for them — adopt, donate and volunteer!”
This year’s Clear The Shelters’ Adopt & Donate campaign features returning partners WeRescue (werescue.pet) and GreaterGood.org, as well as new partner 24PetWatch (www.24petwatch.com).
Users can use the WeRescue iOS app to locate adoptable pets near their zip code, submit their pet adoption applications through shelters’ websites, and ask questions directly to shelters.
Anyone interested in donating to a shelter/rescue may visit GreaterGood.org’s Clear The Shelters donation site ClearTheSheltersFund.org.
Also, 24PetWatch is enabling shelters to increase their exposure through 24Petshelter.com/cleartheshelter, a free website providing a full list of participating shelters and their adoptable pets along with a link to contact them.
