PHILLIPS – The leaders of the Phillips Area Community Center, at the group’s recent annual meeting, discussed the proposal of a project they hope will capture the interest of their whole community – a 2020 time capsule.
“This would be something unique, a whole town thing,” said Phillips Area Community Center Treasurer Winona Davenport. “Something bigger than one person. Something we can all be proud of and in which we might all take an interest.”
Plans are tentative at this point — PACC members want to reach out to other community organizations, the school and the townsfolk in general for their input on the project.
The basic proposal would include the acquisition of a large container that could be buried somewhere in town for recovery decades later by future residents of Phillips. Everyone, people of all ages, will be invited to choose an artifact that represents the year 2020 to them – something unique, memorable, unusual, something personally or historically significant – to place in the container.
