LEWISTON — Dale Doughty, who has been Lewiston’s Public Works director since Dec. 27, 2018, has been selected as Lewiston’s new deputy city administrator.
Doughty will replace Denis D’Auteuil, who will assume the role of city administrator on July 1. D’Auteuil replaces retiring City Administrator Edward A. Barrett, who has served in that capacity since 2010.
Doughty came to Lewiston in 2018 after 22 years with the Maine Department of Transportation, serving his last eight years there as director of maintenance and operations. In that position, he was responsible for a budget of over $170 million and 1,250 employees. He also served the department as manager of its eastern region and with assignments in the department’s Planning and Program Development Division.
During his time at Lewiston Public Works, he has been responsible for the maintenance and operations of all city infrastructure and city-owned utilities, to include the following divisions — water, sewer, storm water utilities; Highway and open spaces; electrical infrastructure; municipal garage; municipal buildings; solid waste operations and recreation for a total staff of 108. He has also provided oversight of the Capital Improvements Program.
“I am really looking forward to Dale joining the city administration team in his new role,” D’Auteuil noted. “His experience, energy and strong commitment to Lewiston will be an excellent addition to our team. I am confident that Dale will make an immediate positive impact on day one as Lewiston’s new Deputy City Administrator.”
Reacting to his selection, Doughty responded, “It has been an honor to have served this proud city in my capacity as Public Works Director. I see this city on the cusp of great things in the near future. I am very excited to join the administrative team to do my part.”
Doughty’s professional experience includes the fields of environmental science, engineering, planning and maintenance and operations. He has also worked in both public and private sectors, building relationships with peers, community leaders, regulators and members of the public. He has a bachelor’s degree in geology and chemistry from the University of Maine at Farmington and also completed additional graduate work in geology at West Virginia University. In addition, he is a Maine Certified Geologist. Doughty is married and has two adult children.
