Turner Public Library, businesses keeping the Fourth of July fun

TURNER — Fourth of July weekend has always been a celebratory time for Turner and its adjacent communities, and despite the continuation of COVID-19 prevention practices, Turner businesses and the Turner Public Library are keeping the Fourth fun.
Wes Clark and Clark’s Farm will have a one-float parade, keeping the Clark family’s Fourth of July tradition alive. The parade will travel through Turner, ending at the Canty Cow Creamery at noon. Clark will sell 60 hanging baskets off the float and Canty Cow will scoop frozen custard – both activities support Turner Public Library with donations from sales.
The library’s annual book sale has found a new home both online at the library’s website, and at Turner’s Food City supermarket on Route 4.
“Turner is our town and if we all support each other, we can make the whole town better,” said Food City manager, Heidi Hewison.
Food City is also participating in the library-organized Picnic-to-Go, during which 10n Turner businesses will make donations to Turner Public Library for items bought between Thursday, July 2, and Sunday, July 5. Turner businesses participating are:
Bear Pond Variety – Donating $1 for every Italian Sandwich sold.
Canty Cow Creamery – $1 for any size strawberry frozen custard.
Clark’s Farm – 5% of all plant sales.
Double Z Land and Livestock – 10% of all ground meat sales.
Food City – $1 for every rotisserie chicken sold and $1 for Nuskin product sold from the special vendor table!
Greenwoods Orchard Store – $1 fpr each sour cream pound cake and quart of strawberries combo.
Nezinscot Farm -receive $1 off your order, and that $1 supports TPL.
Northland TrueValue – $1 from every propane fill.
Ricker Hill Orchards Farm Store – Proceeds of Strawberry Shortcake kits.
Roebucks Angus Beef – $.50 of every pound of ground beef.
Picnickers are also winners with this year’s events, as Caldwell Family Farm has donated a $130 meat gift box and a friend of Turner Public Library has donated a $100 L.L. Bean gift card, both of which will be drawn from the Picnic-to-Go trackers available at the participating business, the library and Community Credit Union, which donated printing costs. Participants who bring in their stamped trackers to the library by July 9, will be eligible to win. No purchase is necessary to receive a stamp from a vendor.
“Our funding for the coming fiscal year could have been devasted by the need to cancel our annual Fourth of July events,” said Ellen Bradley, library director. “As much fun as the Festival on the Green and the Book Sale are, they are also two of the library’s largest fundraisers for our annual operating expenses. Turner businesses offering their support is wonderful validation for us because it confirms that the library is a valuable community resource.”
