STRATTON — So much has happened at the Dead River Area Historical Society this year, or at least it seems that way.
To begin with, the roof was leaking around the chimney and did damage to the ceiling and two walls. The socieity called Kurt Rolbiecki, of KR Builders, who brought up a roof lift and checked the chimney out. He said in another year it could have fallen over and caused damage to the roof. So he took it down to the roof, put a piece of metal roofing over the hole, and he never charged a cent.
“What a guy! If you see him tell him ‘thank you’ and how grateful we all are for everything he has done for the museum,” said Mary Henderson, of the museum.
The museum was built in 1878 and does suffer from old age. “So much needs to be done, but because of the COVID-19 we can’t all be there at the same time to do the work on it and it is going to take as many members as we can gather to get this work done,” she said.
The museum will not be open for the 2020 season.
