Central Maine teachers awarded grants for Teacher Appreciation Day

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Several central Maine teachers are among those honored by Sonic Drive-In’s Limeades for Learning program.
To recognize the entrepreneurial spirit driving teachers to meet their students’ distance learning needs during this difficult time, Sonic Drive-In matched all donations to DonorsChoose on Teacher Appreciation Day.
Through Limeades for Learning, Sonic donated $1 million to public school teacher requests across the country on Teacher Appreciation Day – Tuesday, May 5 – supporting their endeavors to provide students with essential education resources. While the nearest SONIC Drive-In is in Massachusetts, a number of Maine teachers received grants.
Area teachers honored were:

AUBURN: Chelsea Bernier at Walton Elementary School for the project “Essential Remote Learning Materials” and Nora Jarvis at Washburn Elementary School for the project “TOON Graphics for Avid Readers.” They will share $401.

LEWISTON: Erin Card at ACADIA Academy for the project “Our School’s Orffestra!”; Rebecca Trujillo at ACADIA Academy for the project “Family Art Kits”; andEvelyn Atwood at Robert V. Connors Elementary School for the project “Believe in Your Shelf: A Library Update.” They will share $719.

LISBON FALLS: Kate Giard at Philip W Sugg Middle School for the project “Be Blown Away by a Child’s Art Ability,”and Pauline Mccarthy, also a PWS, for the project “New Laptop #3 for New STEM Projects.” They will share $136.

SOUTH PARIS: Mercedes Mclean-Wheeler at Oxford Hills Middle School for the project “Picturing the World: Graphic Nonfiction,” Kelley Wallace at Paris Elementary School for the project “Games, Journals and Achievement Awards,” and Pamela Williams at Paris Elementary School for the project “Journaling Through Uncertain Times.” They will share $362.

“Teachers across the country face new and complex challenges to keep their students learning right now,” said Christi Woodworth, vice president for public relations for SONIC. “As we continue to celebrate teachers this Teacher Appreciation Month, we sincerely thank educators who are creatively keeping their students learning even as schools are closed. With SONIC’s $1 million donation match, we were able to help teachers obtain resources for their students and will continue to empower them throughout the year.”
