What we see on our Maine road-less-traveled walks

Readers — do you know where this is? [Answer is at the bottom].

TOP PHOTO: There certainly are no working fire hydrants on this road, but someone managed a clever “reduce, reuse, recycle” solution for an aging pressurized pump.

Harkening back to the era of hippies and peace signs, this mailbox definitely sends a message. Perhaps all the owner is saying is “Give peace a chance.”

Evoking images of a Celtic cross with a triangular twist, this mailbox post beautifully displays its cargo.
This addition to the post provides an interesting avian silhouette. No doubt, there will be a hanging basket at some point to complete the look. Is this an identifiable bird or merely a composite image?
Apparently, if you have an interest, the Internet is there to help. This clever VW bus mailbox brightens up the corner.

ANSWER: A recent walk along Marston Hill Road in Auburn and Minot and County Road in Turner turned up a few interesting mailboxes and their particularly creative holders.
