Greater Androscoggin Animal Shelter to hold virtual kitten shower May 23

LEWISTON — The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society is holding a virtual kitten shower on Saturday, May 23.
Last spring, hundreds of kittens were brought to the shelter, ranging in age from newborn to six months. In anticipation of the same influx of kittens this year, participants can help the shelter get ready with donations such as dry and canned kitten food, Kitten Milk Replacer, Feline Pine/non-clumping litter, litter boxes, cat and kitten shampoo, fleece blankets, cat toys and cleaning supplies such as bleach and paper towels.
In addition to the supply drive, there will a bottle drive, a raffle and many opportunities to join the shelter on Facebook throughout the day, as it shows firsthand the care needed to help these babies as they await adoption. There will also be a free webinar for those interested in learning more about the foster program on Thursday, May 21.
For those who have ever wondered about the mysteries of feline behavior, there will be a Cat Behavior Seminar on Tuesday, May 26.
On May 23, throughout the day, the shelter’s van will be parked out front, providing a safe drop-off location for the vital donations and returnable bottles. There will also be a selfie station so donors can share what they brought on social media. The shelter is at 55 Strawberry Ave.
Central Maine Credit Union, 1000 Lisbon St., will also be collecting donations through May 23.
The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society provides a safe haven for over 3,500 sick, homeless and abused animals in the greater Androscoggin area every year. The primary support for the shelter comes from fundraising events and donations.
