In the midst of rapidly changing directives surrounding the cononavirus response, more people are taking walks around the roads less traveled — or even the roads well traveled. Avoiding frost heaves and the occasional pothole, there are bound to be views one doesn’t see or note while driving or even biking. Here are a few from a recent stroll.
A historic technological milestone, that we now take for granted, happened on the outskirts of this Oxford County town.

Outside of the town of Andover, AT&T built Earth Station Andover to communicate with the Telstar 1 satellite. On July 11, 1962, the satellite, which had been launched the previous day, sent and received signals from Andover and to Pleumeur-Bodou, France, which transmitted it to Goonhilly Downs, England. It was the first time people in England and France saw live TV transmissions from the U.S. All that now exists of the satellite station, dismantled in the 1990s, is the plaque on Andover’s common and the name of Bethel’s high school — Telstar.
