Wayne Memorial Day Committee moves forward with plans

Apr. 142020

WAYNE — The Memorial Day Committee joins all others in the community in working to protect health while it continues planning the 2020 commemoration. The committee recognizes that public assembly may be compromised and will be working on alternative ways to participate in the reflections this year, including possibly creating a podcast of planned remarks. Updates will be posted on the town website.
If the situation is back to normal, the schedule will be as follows:
10:30 a.m. – Veterans, bands, Scouts, and anyone with a focus on honoring veterans should assemble at the Wayne Community Church’s parking lot.
11 a.m. – The different groupings will leave the parking lot and go down Main Street to Pond Road and back to the Veterans Memorial Stone on Pocasset Lake, where a wreath-laying ceremony will take place. Then the parade will move to Veterans Memorial Park, where the formal program will continue.
If it rains, services will be at the Ladd Center at 11 a.m.
Transportation will be provided for any veterans who need a ride in the parade. Those interested in giving veterans should contact David Ault at 207-685-4578. The guest speaker is Will Ault All veterans are urged to participate in the parade as a tribute to men and women of the town who have served in different branches of the services in the past. The town continues trying to update the records of those who have served in the military branches, not only the names of those who served the country during a war or conflict, but also peace-time military. The committee has the information for those whose names were read in past Memorial Day services; if not, it is needed. Contact the town office at 207-685-4983 with the following information: branch of the armed services you served in; rank on leaving the service; years served and where.
Any questions regarding the Memorial Day service should be directed to Doug Stevenson at 207-685-9005 or Don Welsh at 207-685-4117.
