St. Michael students win DAR Koussinoc Chapter history essay contest

AUGUSTA — Students from area schools have been selected as winners of the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award and of the American History Essay contest.
The Koussinoc Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held a ceremony on March 9 at Lithgow Public Library to honor the students. The topic for the essay was, “The Voyage of the Mayflower,” and students took the persona of a passenger on the ship.
Second-place winners were, 6th grade, Davyn Sivindells; 7th grade, Natalie Dube; 8th grade, Georgiana Davidson.
First-place winners were 6th grade, Alden Winkinson; 7th grade, Abigail Clark; 8th grade, Keith Radonis.
All students are from St. Michael School. Abigail also won the state division and will attend the Spring State Conference in Augusta in April.
Two senior students were entrants for the Good Citizen Award — Julia Basha, a student at Erskine Academy, in South China, and Makaelyn Porter, a student at Southern Aroostook Community High School The students ertr chosen by faculty and student body for their qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. The student then submits a packet of personal data stating how and why they feel they show these qualities.
