AUGUSTA — Student artists from across the region were celebrated in honor of Youth Art Month, with an art exhibition throughout the capitol complex, as well as a celebration of youth performers on March 11 in the Hall of Flags oin the Maine State House.
The performance included the Maine Arts Academy Chamber Singers, Passamaquoddy youth dancing and drumming groups, and the newly anointed 2020 Maine Poetry Out Loud Champion.
The exhibition, Excellence in Maine Arts Education, displayed the work of 45 student artists from all over the state, which were submitted by their art teachers. Visual art teachers from schools throughout Maine submitted one piece of two-dimensional artwork that represents artistic excellence from a K-12 student. The work showcased a wide range of ages, media, and styles, with 14 counties represented. Selected works were installed in locations around the capitol complex, including the State House, the Burton M. Cross Building (second floor) and the offices of the Maine Arts Commission, 193 State St.
