Healthy Communities of the Capital Area names district youth coordinator

GARDINER – Healthy Communities of the Capital Area has announced Kevin Carter has been hired as district youth coordinator.
Carter will work with youth groups in the Central Public Health District, Kennebec and Somerset counties, to foster the healthy development of youth and create a thriving network of engaged leaders.
Before joining Healthy Communities of the Capital Area, Carter was a member of the Fit for Life team at Bath Iron Works, scheduling employee health screenings and launching an employee workday stretching program. Carter is also a recent graduate of the University of Maine at Farmington, with a degree in community health.
In his new role, Carter will work with young people in the community to help create change and amplify youth voice.
Executive Director of Healthy Communities of the Capital Area Joanne Joy said, “We are very excited to have Kevin join our team, as he brings a new outlook onto the Public Health field. We are excited that he has a sports background as he works with teams of young people and he can help bring those teams together.”
District youth coordinators are part of the Maine Youth Action Network, a program of the Opportunity Alliance. The Maine Youth Action Network strategically collaborates, convenes, and partners to build young people’s leadership on issues of social justice, restorative practices, and public health; and the capacity of adults, organizations, and systems to use positive youth development and social-emotional learning principles in their work with youth.
