READFIELD — A “pop-up” university, Readfield U, will offer a series of classes and events on a variety of topics, as well as two suppers throughout March at a variety of sites in town.
All events are free and open to the public. Readfield U is sponsored and put on by the community.
The two suppers are:
Maine Bicentennial Celebration Potluck, 6 p.m. Saturday March 14, at Kents Hill School Dining Hall.
Readfield U Celebration Potluck, 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 28, Maranacook High School Dining Room. Snow date is Sunday, March 29. Anyone is welcome to take part in the Readfield U potluck and hear about the month’s activities, whether or not they participated in Readfield U events.
Classes, all of which are free, are:
“A Story to Tell,” Donna McGibney. A series of writing workshops to help participants tell the story of their own life or the lives of loved ones, for age 18 and up. 3 to 4:30 p.m., Mondays March 2, 9, 16, and possibly 23, at Readfield United Methodist Church, 1564 Main St.
“How Did You Become You?” Amy Gove. Getting started with geneaology. This is not a series but is a beginning genealogy class offered once a for age 8 and up at 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays March 3 and 17 and 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays March 10 and 24, at Temple Masonic Lodge, 1138 Main St.
“Tales of the South Pacific: A Sailing Adventure to the Kingdom of Tonga,” Henry and Darcy Whittemore. Told in words and pictures, for all ages. 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, Temple Masonic Lodge, 1138 Main St.
“Knitting – Intro to the Basics,” Joan Wiebe. For ages 12 or older. 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesdays March 4, 11, 18 and 25 (depending on interest) Readfield United Methodist Church, 1564 Main St.
“Immigration in Central Maine,” Chris Myers Asch. Teenagers and up, noon to 1 p.m. Thursday March 5, Readfield United Methodist Church, 1564 Main St.
“The Readfield Union Meeting House: A History,” Marius Peladeau and John Perry. Told in words and pictures. Upper elementary school age and beyond. 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 7, Temple Masonic Lodge, 1138 Main St.

“Exploring Wabanaki/Maine History,” a participatory workshop on colonization and its effects on the indigenous people of Maine, by Maine-Wabanaki REACH, for teens and adults, 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday March 15, Asa Gile Hall, 8 Old Kents Hill Road.
