WINTHROP — The Winthrop Area Ministerial Association and Maine Prison Re-Entry Network are co-sponsoring the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Community breakfast beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at St. Francis Xavier Church, 130 State Route 133.
“Inspired by Dr. King’s goal of building beloved community, we will gather together as neighbors in communities affected by the stigmas around substance use disorder and incarceration,” said Rev. Christina Cataldo, pastor of Winthrop Congregational Church, UCC. “We will gather to connect neighbor-to-neighbor, greet stranger as friend, mobilize the ethic of Love, and summon the transformative power of a community that cares for each other.”
Through the act of breaking bread together, listening to real life stories and participating in small group conversation, the goal is to “dismantle stigma surrounding substance use disorder and incarceration. Our hope is that the connections we will make here become the foundations for building healthier and stronger communities,” she added.
