Kennebec Land Trust plans trail bike network in Fayette

WINTHROP — The Kennebec Land Trust is close to raising the money needed to buy 330 acres in Fayette that will include a mountain biking trail network. The KLT’s 2018 strategic plan survey results indicated a strong interest in recreation and demand for mountain bike trails in the area, and the comments of those who answered the survey have directly informed the trust’s conservation projects, according to a news release.
The property includes the 605-foot summit of Surry Hill. The expansive landscape will provide many recreational opportunities, including hiking, snowmobiling, hunting, mountain biking and nature observation.
The trust is $14,83 away from its goal to buy the land, and has already raised $289,000, according to the news release. The trust will partner with the Central Maine Chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association to build and maintain the trail network.
