LEWISTON — The city of Lewiston Mayoral Inaugural and Elected Officials Oath of Office Ceremony will take place on Monday, Jan, 6.
The ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. at The Gendron Franco Cente, 46 Cedar St., and will be followed by a dessert reception. The public is invited to attend this evening of celebration to acknowledge the newly elected and returning members of Lewiston city government.
Elected officials who will take the oath of office include Mayor-elect Mark A. Cayer, members of the City Council and members of the School Committee. The 2020-22 councilors are Safiya S. Khalid., Ward One; Zachary T. Pettengill, Ward Two; Alicia M. Rea, Ward Three; Michel A. Lajoie, Ward Four; Luke D. Jensen, Ward Five; Kerryl Lee Clement, Ward Six and Stephanie J. Gelinas, Ward Seven. Members of the 2020-22 School Committee are Megan D. Parks, member at large; Bruce Damon, Ward One; Monique Roy, Ward Two, Kiernan I. Majerus-Collins, Ward Three; Tanya M. Whitlow, Ward Four; Lynnea C. R. Hawkins, Ward Five; Ronald W. Potvin, Ward Six and Ryan M. Donovan, Ward Seven.
During the ceremony, outgoing Mayor Kristen S. Cloutier will present her farewell address, outlining the accomplishments of the past few years. Cayer will present his inaugural address, highlighting his goals and objectives for the city for the next two years.
The city council will nominate and elect the council president for the 2020-22 term. In addition, the School Committee will nominate and elect the committee chair for the 2020-2022 term.
The evening will begin with Lewiston High School student Abigail Medina performing the national anthem. Local clergy members will jointly deliver the invocation for the ceremony. Deacon Francis Daggett, Prince of Peace Parish and Bates College Campus Minister; Rabbi Sruli Dresdner of Temple Shalom Synagogue Center; and Imam Saleh Mahamud of the Islamic Center of Lewiston will participate in Monday’s ceremony. Lewiston’s Youth Poet Laureate Joao Victor will perform an original poem to celebrate the event.
The members of the Lewiston Fire Department and Police Department honor guards will serve as the color guard and will conduct the presentation and retirement of the flags.
Members of the Lewiston High School Law Enforcement cadets will serve as ushers and program distributors for the evening. Flowers and plants are being provided by Blais Flower & Garden Shop and a videotape production of the ceremony will be created by Great Falls TV. The Lewiston High School Chamber Singers will conduct a musical performance during the ceremony.
Catering for the dessert reception will be provided by the Lewiston Regional Technical Center Culinary Arts Program students.
The Gendron Franco Center is handicapped accessible and parking is available across the street in the Continental Mill lot.
