Togus VA center to hold open house for veterans, their families Dec. 14

AUGUSTA — VA Maine Healthcare System in Togus invites veterans and their families to an open house, from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Dec. 14, at 1 VA Center, Building 200 (the hospital building).
This is an opportunity for veterans and their families to learn about VA health care and benefits, meet VA Maine clinical staff, take a tour of the facility and new Fisher House, and learn about the history of the nation’s first VA. There will be activities for children, including Santa Claus, face painting and more.
There will be walking tours of the VA Maine Togus campus and Fisher House, leaving every 15 minutes beginning at 9 a.m., with the last tour departing at 11 a.m. Tours take about an hour.
There will also be a meet and greet with the staff, and more. At noon there will be a Wreaths Across America ceremony in the West Cemeter, followed by Cantata Musical in the Chapel Building 235 at 1 p.m. The Chaplain Service is inviting everyone to come together and celebrate our veterans and the holidays with a pot luck, music and sing-a-long. Singing practice begins at noon and the formal event will start at 1 p.m. All are welcome.
